Homemade Grounding Mat

This is a cheap and simple alternative to buy a professionally made grounding mat.

These will achieve the same results, but won't be as pretty or stylish as the ones that can be bought online.

Please make sure you have the correct information based on the cable you are using as well as your location.

Steps:

  1. Find an old/unused power cable. (I'm in the US so I will be showing those style plugs)
  2. Make sure the cable you are going to use has the ground prong (circular)
  3. Bend off the two to other prongs (they are the straight ones)
  4. Cut off the opposite end of the cable. (must keep plug intact)
  5. Strip away outer casing
  6. Cut off the 'hot' and 'neutral' wires. (Color codes found here)
  7. Stip the 'ground' wire. (This one attaches to the plug we left)

Now we can use the just as it is or we can add some aluminum foil to make the mat.

Simply tape the exposed wire between two pieces of aluminum foil and tape the foil together.

Now just plug into a wall outlet and touch the mat or wire to be grounded!
